Who needs character development when you have a great wardrobe?
Behind every great character is a great wardrobe. Here are 5 of the most iconic wardrobes in film:
1. Empire Records – Corey Mason
A cropped sweater, pleated skirt and Doc Martens, Corey Mason’s edgy schoolgirl look is iconic (but lets be honest Liv Tyler could wear a plastic bag and still look like a babe).
A special mention is also deserved of fellow Empire Records employee, Lucas, who pulled off the turtle neck like no other.
2. Pretty in Pink – Andie Walsh
Really I could have chosen any Molly Ringwald character (who is said to have had a significant amount of input into her costumes) but there’s something about Andie’s at times mismatched but always chic wardrobe; thrifted/made herself.
3. Every now and then I come to the adamant decision that I want to throw out all my clothes and wear only black and white. Somehow on my next shopping trip, a pastel or print always manages to sneak its way into my bags, so for me, Mia Wallace is the ultimate icon of restraint: no nonsense, no colour, all style.
4. Heathers – The Heathers (plus Veronica)
Who could forget the original mean girls? The girls of Heathers’ Westerburg High School ran the place and knew how to communicate this sartorially. From pastel stockings, big shoulder pads and personalised croquet mallets, The Heathers had it all, and who could forget the infamous red scrunchie?
5. Clueless – Cher Horowitz
This may seem like a look that’s been done to death as of late (thank you Iggy), but there’s a reason for that. Cher Horowitz knew how to pull together an outfit (even if she did have a computer program to help her – top of my Christmas list). I will forever worship her matching ensembles and knee high socks and of course mourn the destruction of her beautiful Alaia (“You don’t understand!”)
